You can put a trade show at Palmer Events Center, a conference in a downtown hotel, and a reception on Lady Bird Lake in the same week. The city has the rooms, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, and enough parks and water that attendees actually want to stay. Where Austin events actually happen
Austin Convention Center on East Cesar Chavez closed in April 2025 for a full rebuild and is not expected back until the 2029 festival season. If a brief still lists an ACC exhibit hall, the crew will arrive at a construction site. Palmer Events Center at 900 Barton Springs Road is the city's own hall that stayed open: exhibit space on the south shore of Lady Bird Lake, next to Auditorium Shores. That is the working floor until the new center opens.
Fairmont Austin, JW Marriott Austin, and Hilton Austin take the conferences and dinners that used to sit next to ACC. Moody Center handles arena-scale nights. SXSW spreads across hotels, streets, and temporary sites. Name the actual building. A closed convention center is not a venue.
Parks, lakes, and what the city offers
People book Austin because the setting is part of the offer. Lady Bird Lake is the Colorado River impoundment through downtown, with the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail on both banks. Zilker Park is the large lawn west of Palmer, with Barton Springs Pool on the spring-fed side. Auditorium Shores sits between the Events Center and the water. Emma Long Metropolitan Park is on Lake Austin. McKinney Falls State Park, with Onion Creek and two waterfalls, is the state park on the southeast edge of town.
Those places show up in real programs, not only in tourism copy. A user conference at JW Marriott often adds a lakeside piece on the trail. It is why a national brand will still fly into Austin-Bergstrom and spend three days here instead of waiting for 2029.
